BMAT 2006 Section 2 Question 1

The graph shows changes in the mass of glycogen stored in the liver and skeletal muscles. During which periods will the concentration of insulin in the blood be below normal?

Answer:

Remember that insulin converts glucose to glycogen so it can be stored in the liver and in the muscles.

Therefore, when insulin levels drop in the blood, glycogen synthesis will also decrease. This can be seen in time periods 3 and 5; when glycogen levels are decreasing, meaning that insulin concentration is below normal.
