IMAT 2025 syllabus breakdown with free PDF. Learn what to study for biology, chemistry, logical Reasoning, Physics, Maths and General Knowledge.
Hey, I’m Sami Qamar and if you’re preparing for IMAT 2025, you’re probably wondering…
What exactly should I study?
Where can I find the syllabus?
And most importantly: How do I cover everything without wasting time on useless stuff?
Let’s break it down together.
IMAT 2025 Syllabus PDF
Let’s start with what you’re really here for the official syllabus.
👉 Download the Official IMAT 2025 Syllabus PDF here (I’ll update the link as soon as it’s officially released by MUR the Italian Ministry of University & Research)
Until then, here’s a breakdown of what’s inside the syllabus, in short what you really need to study.
🧪 What’s Actually Tested in the IMAT
The IMAT exam is 60 questions in 100 minutes. Here’s how they’re split:
- 5 Questions: Logical Reasoning
- 23 Questions: Biology
- 15 Questions: Chemistry
- 13 Questions: Physics + Math
- 4 Questions: GK
Each section has its own strategy and I’ll be covering that in my IMAT Syllabus Masterclasses (more on that below 👇).
🧬 Biology
No need to overthink this. You’ll need:
- Cell structure & functions
- Biological molecules (proteins, carbs, DNA)
- Genetics & evolution
- Human physiology (nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, etc.)
- Reproduction, development, ecology
My tip: Stick to Cambridge IGCSE/AS or Pearson bio books + past IMAT questions. That’s more than enough. (my recommended lectures)
⚗️ Chemistry
IMAT Chemistry has 15 questions and often tricky. But the high weightage chapters are the one, on which you should focus on:
- Atomic structure & periodic table
- Chemical bonding
- Stoichiometry & moles
- Acids, bases, pH
- Redox, electrochemistry
- Organic chemistry (nomenclature, reactions)
My tip: Focus on concepts + practice. IMAT doesn’t go too deep, but they love twisting the basics and sometimes they do write long statements that makes questions harder.
Physics + Math
Most students often ignore this section, they don’t really prepare for it, due to ma-the-mat-ics involved, but to be in top 1% you really have to prepare for these sections.
Physics:
- Units, motion, forces
- Energy & work
- Electricity & circuits
- Waves & optics
- Thermodynamics
Math:
- Algebra & equations
- Graphs, functions
- Probability & statistics
- Geometry (mostly basic)
My tip: Use Khan Academy, IGCSE physics/math, or even just my lectures for quick mastery.
🧠 Logical Reasoning
Arguably the most important section. This is where IMAT separates guessers from thinkers.
- Critical thinking (assumptions, conclusions, flaws)
- Problem solving (sequences, patterns, logic puzzles)
- Deductive and inductive reasoning
- Inference-based questions
My tip: Practice is king. The more questions you solve, the sharper you get.
🌍 General Knowledge
This is the wild card. Anything from politics to Nobel Prizes to history.
My tip: Best prep = Stay updated. Read summaries of recent world events. I’ll also share high-yield GK revision sheets closer to the exam.
