My First day at Medical School

Everyone dreams of getting into Medical school and a majority of them achieve it. Today I’m going to share my first day at medical school.  I refuse to write in an ordinary style that says, “Morning, medical school, and then home.” Instead, I will write this differently because I made a large blender on the first day.

I had to travel 167 km on Sunday, January 27, 2024, from my house to Peshawar, the location of my college. You might be wondering why a day earlier. This is the cause: dense fog caused road closures. There will be several turns on this trip. Now that I’ve moved away from home to attend college, I didn’t have a hostel because my university didn’t provide one. This was the biggest challenge but my uncle’s student was only a 12-minute ride away from school at the engineering institution. My uncle had given me his phone number and urged me to stay with him temporarily, but I didn’t know who that person was. Upon meeting him, I was shocked to know that he had been a high school classmate of mine.

Let’s take a quick trip back to our first year of high school, when we first met. We were first introduced in the finals thanks to our seating arrangement. It was Chemistry’s paper and he was sitting infront of me. He asked me for answers and I told him to just write with me and match my speed. Hence he was copying me and his cousin, who was sitting infront of him, was copying his. They both wrote my whole paper and this was the final exam. When the results were announced I got 92% while he got 89% but unluckily his cousin got 76%. This is how he became my friend and then in 2nd year of my highschool, he was just a good friend.

He led me to his room, where we watched a movie and gossiped for two hours. Then I excused myself, saying that I had to get up early for my orientation, and he had spent the entire night playing PUBG.

The next morning, on Monday, I got ready for medical school. Although I was dressed in uniform, this is the largest twist and blender I created that day. I received written instructions from the school, and they specified that I should wear steel gray pants. When I went to the shop, store employee handed me grey pants. I was perplexed when he told me there were two hues: steel grey and Malaysian grey, which is black. But I had seen classmates wearing black pants, so I was now really confused. He gave me grey and as I had Malaysian grey at home so I carried both of them with me. However, on Sunday night, my cousin’s friend, the alumni, confirmed with her that boys did, in fact, wear grey pants. At that point, I was certain. I simply packed my black trousers in my suitcase without giving them any thought. The most significant uniform of all was the WHITE COAT, which is what everyone flexes on. Moreover, I was missing my tie. I later learned that they were out of stock, even though I had intended to purchase from the college. I had on grey plants, a black sweater, black shoes, a white coat on my arm lap, and a white shirt with the collar unbuttoned.

When I finally made it to college, I was already thirty minutes late, and my confidence completely collapsed upon seeing other students dressed in black pants. Since my cousin was the only member of my family present in the area and she was on duty, I attended the first half of the ceremony by myself. I thought I looked terrible, and the only way to cover up my shame was to not look at my pants, but literally, I was laughing in this situation because I was looking different although awful. So I spent my whole white coat ceremony hiding behind big boys. That’s why I wasn’t captured by any camera of my school’s administration. I also took some snaps of myself but I will never ever share them. Because this is a very bad thing I faced.

There was a white coat ceremony following assembly. Parents donned their children’s white coats following the principal’s announcement to make the day special for them,but it was already special for me (grey pants: I will never forget). Then the seniors cheered and applauded (for our welcome).  And then we had a plantation ceremony. We took OATH, I don’t remember any single word of that oath. I have recorded a vlog that you can watch on YouTube from below. After that, we had some orientation classes in the lecture hall, about college discipline and different motivational talks (that were not even 1% motivational). This was my whole first-day experience at medical school.

But hold on…I forgot to tell you about my medical school, so this is a private medical college REHMAN MEDICAL COLLEGE. It had the highest merit in our province and it is really great with respect to quality, building, hospital, discipline, and many other things that I will cover in another blog post. Thank you
