BMAT 2020 Section 2 Question 8

In a sale, the normal price of a camera is reduced by 20%. The sale price of the camera is £180. Which expression gives the normal price of the camera?

Answer:

Let ‘N’ be the normal price of a camera and let ‘S’ be the sale price.
In the sale, the price is reduced by 20%. SN- 0.2N
S = 0.8 N
To find the normal price ‘N’, we simply rearrange. N=S ÷ 0.8
We know S = £180
So N = 180 ÷ 0.8
