BMAT 2013 Section 2 Question 23

Consider this graph.

Which one of the following could the graph not represent if all quantities are in S.I. units?

Answer:

A – Wrong
With the equation F = ma, we know that F ∝ a and hence this can be a graph of Force against acceleration.

B – Wrong
With the equation V = IR, we know that V ∝ I and hence this can be a graph of voltage against current.

C – Wrong
With the equation KE = ½mv², we know that KE ∝ v².

D – Correct
With the equation c = λ x ƒ, we know that λ ∝ 1/ƒ and hence this cannot be a graph of wavelength against frequency.

E – Wrong
With the equation W = F x d, we know that W ∝ d and hence this can be a graph of work against distance.
